The Year 10 handball team at King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool has recently completed an incredible season marked by national recognition. Their journey was an admirable display of talent and teamwork throughout each stage of the competition.
The team started strong from the beginning, winning the Liverpool City Championship before heading to the Merseyside Finals and maintaining their winning form with a confident victory. Their regional sweep was completed at the Northwest of England Finals, with another strong performance and a final triumph. These successive wins earned them a coveted place in the National Finals in Nottingham, an incredible achievement that placed them among the elite of school handball in the UK.
Competing against the top 10 school teams in the country, King’s Liverpool began the national finals on a high note, securing a win against the first school they faced. The intensity ramped up in their next game against Chadwell Heath, who would go on to win the entire tournament. In a tense match, the King’s Liverpool players gave it everything, eventually falling just short in a narrow 8-10 defeat. It was a hard-fought battle that showcased the team’s tenacity and competitive edge.
Reflecting on the season, Mark Williams, Head of PE at King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool, shared his pride in the team’s achievements: “This season’s blend of triumph and near-miss has set a foundation for future success. The players return not just with medals, but with the experience and hunger to conquer the national stage next year. To win three finals is exceptional; to battle champions in the fourth is legendary.”
